When Theresa May came to power she said she would be thinking of and acting for the little people in preference to the powerful and entitled.

How long before she will tackle the Standing Charge on utility bills which loads costs upon poor folk and low users?

The Standing Charge had begun to fall out of use until it was suddenly encouraged byj the Nasty Tory Party in coalition with the Nasty Libdems, acting on the advice produced by a committee chaired by a Nasty Labour Party MP.

NPower leaped at the opportunity and raised my gas bill by 650%. Fortunately I was able to find a supplier with a proportional Standing Charge. But my interest was piqued.

And now Anglian Water has spotted a nice source of free money.....

Now, to be fair to the government, it actually says it abolished the requirement for a standing charge in 2016. I cannot claim to understand what is going on here since there were tariffs before 2016 with no standing charge and there are tariffs with a standing charge since 2016. We just have to accept that bureaucracy, government and the utility companies all function by confusing the sheeple. However,  what is clear is that there is no requirement upon the utility companies to impose a standing charge and that those who do not offer a zero standing charge tariff are in breach of the will of parliament.
